I think this was addressed in the book.  There was a problem with security.  
Remember when Harry and company got to the checkpoint, the guard wasn't there.  
Later we discover that the Deatheaters had somehow disabled the security of the DoM 
so that Harry could get to the prophesy.  Ordinarily, the guard never leaves the 
checkpoint and the DoM door is locked.  Harry was too focused on rescueing Sirius to 
notice the implications of this.
