I agree. I think it is to reflect that although Harry is rich in 
terms of money / fame, and although Ron is often jealous of all that 
Harry has, in Harry's eyes, Ron is really the richer of the two 
because of his family and therefore the number of presents that he 
has (and the quality of the presents too). In my opinion it also 
comes back to one of the main themes of the books, that Love is the 
most important thing somone can have.
