In the series so far, one character has his parents murdered while he's a
baby. He spends most of the first ten years of his life being subjected to
mental and physical abuse by his foster parents and his peers. He has to
face the fact that the person who killed his parents is still alive and at
liberty, and could at any time come and kill him as well.
Another character's parents have been driven literally out of their minds by
torture and pain. They are kept in an asylum, where he visits them
occasionally, despite years of visits, they do not recognise him.
And that's acceptable.
But let's say that Harry has a crush on Neville, and they kiss.
Suddenly people want to protect the 7, 8 and 9 year olds.
How is that any worse than Harry having a crush on Cho Chang and kissing
her?
