This is actually a disgusting theory if you think about it logically,
but I'm not going to go to the disgusting place. I want to know if
I'm totally alone in thinking that some wizards/witches may not have
a completely human heritage.
I just got "Fantastic Beasts" (I know, I'm running very late) and I
looked up kneazles first thing because I'd heard about them on the
list. Then I looked for thestrals because I'd also heard here that
they were included. Then I looked at the descriptions of the other
beasts very carefully, looking for clues to future plots.
Marcus Flint is consistently described as looking like he's part
troll. Is that just Harry's opinion, or a reference that some
wizards' blood is not as "pure" as they like to think? Dudley is
described as pig-like. Again, just a description, or a way to get us
thinking that some people may have partly non-human blood? There's a
whole subculture dedicated to (so far) non-canon PartVampire!Snape.
I can't remember offhand whether veela are considered "beasts" or
not, but as canon Fleur is part veela. Hagrid is part giant--are
they considered people or beasts? And Lupin as werewolf is
definitely canon.
The demiguise was the only one I remember which was specifically
mentioned as having properties of invisibility, which made me think
of Dumbledore, as I've been driving myself crazy trying to figure out
what "his own ways of being invisible without a cloak" are.
(Throughout all the books there are sudden breezes around Harry--I
think maybe this is Dumbledore or at least someone else invisible.)
Could he have demiguise in his ancestry? His silver hair and beard
also match the description.
If we accept the premise that somehow "FB" blood got into wizard
families (don't think about how), then Luna has to be part mooncalf.
The protuberant eyes, the name is a clue, and then I can definitely
see Luna dancing around in the moonlight, leaving crop circles
behind...
And Mr. Pureblood himself, Draco Malfoy, is definitely part Jarvey.
The ferret reference is priceless, and a dead giveaway. Also the
Jarvey "seems intelligent" because it can talk, but it only says
insulting phrases. This is classic 2D Draco--as much as we are
hoping for something more interesting, such as Angsty!Draco or
Redeemed!Draco, we haven't got it so far. Even if this whole theory
is nonsense, I can't believe somebody hasn't used it as an insult,
Ron for instance: "Malfoy, you are *such* a Jarvey."
That's all I can remember for the moment. Anybody else got any other
ones? Comments?
