Or it occurs off-screen in the book... his glasses do break, and are 
thus presumably whole beforehand, when he lands in Knockturn Alley in 
the _second_ book. Wrapped tape is more likely to bend/crumble than 
"break" in any meaningful sense. I believe that the glasses _were_ 
repaired in pure-book-continuity sometime between the start of the 
first book and the start of the second, and that the "movie 
contamination" is only in the timeframe... either way, whatever caused 
them to be fixed didn't "wear off" nor has hardly any other spell
