Ok I knew I was going to get chewed out on my last post, and I wasn't disappointed. A couple of points before I go.
First, the difference between debating someone's moral character and someone's orientation is that a person's moral character is actually definitely relevant to the plot. For example, if Neville is ever so evil, it will affect (or is it effect, I dont remember) the story line.

I really would like to know exactly which gay stereotypes you think Sirius or Remus or Severus or Draco or any of the other characters we've mentioned adhere to. Frankly I think the only man who could really be described as fitting a gay stereotype is Gilderoy and pretty much no one is speculating about his sexuality.

I agree with you here. That is what made me post after the initial message, which can be viewed here:

Initially I was left wondering where the belief that they were gay was founded upon. I really don't see these particular ones, in case you couldn't tell. I will admit I probably took my reply a little too far, and didn't weigh both sides of the arguement at all well.
Kathryn again:
Several people have pointed out that he fits the stereotype but I haven't seen anyone shipping for him at all. (possibly because we don't want to inflict him on anyone else - although I do have a friend who swears that in the duelling scene in the movie there was definite sexual tension between him and Snape!)
laxer:
I haven't watched the movies so I don't know anything about the scene, but I did feel a lot of tension between the two in reading, because Snape wanted to prove how his skills are better then Lockhart's, who got the job he wanted.
Next, there is the wonderful post by Marianne which said that if you don't care about the topic don't read it. However, because I said the topic is getting ridiculous implies that it was at one point not ridiculous. In my previous post I did not elaborate at all so I am partly to blame for the misunderstanding. Actually the reason I said it was getting ridiculous was because it was no longer really about canon or the books, and more about social mores. It actually could present an interesting topic of discussion, if it was just about canon, but I doubt that that would happen.
Finally, to answer the point that has been brought up several times in this discussion, I dont like shipping. With exceptions. I think that if JKR brings it up initially with a crush, a kiss, or something along those lines, play ball, but I don't like ships along the lines of Draco-Hermione, to name my largest disliked ship. I tend to strictly adhere to the canon I have seen, so that probably is the reason why.
