I noticed the same thing after my recent re-read of SS and i read into it
the same thing you did...so you're not alone in your thinking! :) I believe
it will come into play later. Guess we'll have to wait and see!

By the way, did you also notice the line in SS where Harry got the distinct
impression that Snape could read minds?? I laughed out loud...what crazy,
great foreshadowing that i never noticed before.
