He admits his mistakes (which is why I don't loathe him like I do
Sirius) but I don't think he really learns from them. As a boy, he
didn't stand up to James and Sirius because he was afraid they
wouldn't like him. As an adult, he didn't tell Dumbledore about the
tunnels or Sirius being an animagus because he didn't want
Dumbledore to be disappointed in him. He didn't want Dumbledore to
not like him. It's been 20 years and he's basically making the same
mistake. Worse, he did this believing that Sirius was a murderer
and a dnger to Harry.
The fact that he admits him mistakes and seems to be a very nice guy
is enough to make me like him. The fact that he doesn't learn from
his mistakes and makes such a selfish (and reckless) choice is
enough to keep me from respecting him.
