This is interesting...I originally thought of Snape's behavior as
being rather snide and despicable, but without the more long-lasting
ramifications you suggest. However, as we find out in OotP, the anti-
werewolf laws are passed AFTER Lupin loses his job. Surely there was
some predjudice before, but apparently the MoM didn't think that was
enough to prevent Lupin from getting a job. Snape may not have been
quite so calculatingly brutal as all that (unprofessional, nasty,
impetuous, yes...but not calculatingly brutal).
The other thing this brings to mind is that a Vampire!Snape wouldn't
have done this, in fear he might die by his own sword. If the
theories about the werewolf/vampire essays are correct, then Snape
should suspect that HG (or someone) might have found him out, IMHO.
Me -
Uh firstly frumenta only said the first bit that you included. The stuff
about Snape's actions was me.
I don't know that the MoM necessarily thought so much about the law that
they considered whether or not prejudice would stop him getting a job anyway
Ron is usually our guide as to how the wizard on the street (so to speak)
thinks and the way he reacted to Remus being a Werewolf (and didn't Molly
react badly too - or am imagining that?) makes me think that with his
lycanthropic status being widely known Remus would certainly have even more
trouble than he may have been having before getting and holding a steady job
Like I say I tend to think Snape did it in a fit of temper which while still
unprofessional etc etc is at least understandable.
