I think you answered your own question:  Harry *just* learned to 
use/block these spells.  None of the DE's knew that Harry had taken 
upon himself the teaching of DADA to his fellow students.  I think 
that's JKR's point.  If DA had not been formed, none of those kids 
would have learned a darn thing in Umbridge's class, and they would 
have been completely unprepared in the dangerous times they are now 
facing.  I don't think the DE's were quite ready for how prepared 
these kids actually were.  They will have to keep training, though.  
The DE's will not make the same mistake again.
