It doesn't matter when the UK banned slavery. It doeesn't matter
when the US banned slavery. In both places slavery has been banned
for long enough that everyone who was alive when it was legal is
dead.
Me -
I agree besides if we want to award the high ground to someone Denmark was
the first European country to ban slavery (of course since they had no real
share of the slave trade it is pretty much like Egypt banning snowballs).
Anyway back to HP really Hermione and SPEW annoy me intensely. hermione has
no real understanding of the House Elves. *She* has decided they will be
better off, she has decided to free them regardless of whether they want to
be freed or even understand *how* to be free and she doesn't seem to have
considered the consequences of her actions at all. Sure Dobby is loving his
freedom, he is coping great - but Winky's a total mess. Even Kreacher doesn
t want to be free - he just doesn't want to serve Sirius.
I like Hermione in general, I truly empathise with her most of the rest of
the time. I'm sure I was Hermione at school. And for people who said she was
too perfect - she's (generally, see above exception <g>)great at solving
other people's problems because she can put all her knowledge into practice
totally dispassionately, it's just an example of her book smarts, but
actually understanding her own life and relationships - not so much, no.
