to do are for his own benefit like learning Occlumency and seeing if
Sirius is home or not when he receives the vision. If Harry had
actually listened to Hermione about the Occlumency then Sirius would
not have died since he wouldn't have fallen into Voldemort's trap.
However Ron on the other hand just tries to placate Harry and acts
more like a syncophant while Hermione acts in Harry's best interests
like a true best friend despite the fact that Harry screams at her.

Maturing? He was still making fun of Hermione and SPEW and showing
his childish jealousy for "Vicky" while using hermione like a walking
cheat sheet. Also he called the first years midgets and had thoughts
about abusing his prefect powers and buying firewhiskey.
Furthermore he actually let the Slytherins and their Weasley is Our
King get to him which effected his performance. So in comparison to
Harry, Hermione and Neville I think Ron has a LONG way to go if he
wants to catch up to them.
