Thanks for the post.  Is there a particular passage in the books 
where JKR mentions that Harry is getting mail and DD is in the hall?  
If there is could you post that?

As for DD not be willing to stay at the Dursleys or having better 
things to do than watch Harry, I must respectively disagree.  
*****SPOILER*****    Given the prophecy, I would think Harry is very 
important to watch. In addition (as I have mentioned before) Hedwig 
is often MIA in the summer (for one reason or another).
