Why not? From the implications of chap 37 it seems Ron was choosen
only because Harry had too much on his plate during the time.

A jealousy which lasted approximately two chapters in the book and
where he quickly say the error of his jealousy.

So whining to himself for a brief moment makes him a spoiled brat?
The fact that he didn't display his jealousy towards his supposed
best friend and congratlaed and encouraged him just shows how mature
he is imo.

And Ron got the badge out of merit? Seems more to me like it was
because the first choice was unavaliable and Dumbledore went for the
back up.

Which he did accept and get over in one day while Ron's jealousy in
comparison in GOF took much longer to get over.

Actually the circumstances have changed.

How so? All Harry wants is the family that he never had which he now
has in the form of the Weasleys. Now Ron on the other hand wants to
be captain of the quidditch team, Hermione, and the position of head
boy. Two of these objectives captain of the quidditch team and
Hermione are things that Harry doesn't want and I don't think he
necessarily wants to follow in his father's foot steps of head boy
after seeing how nasty his father was.

I agree that he won't become a death eater like Pettigrew and ally
himself with Voldemort, but I think the resentment and jealousy will
cause him to betray his friends.

I disagree. Hermione is fast becoming Harry's best friend while Ron
has become more detached from the both of them. Afterall it is
Hermione who goes with him into the forbidden forest leaving Ron's
quidditch game, it is also Hermione who help him set up Dumbledore's
Army and it is also Hermione who tries to stop him from going to
London immediately after the fake vision.
