I say:
Or things could go entirely the other way for Ron - next year, he'll
be the only Weasley boy still at Hogwarts, and so have an
opportunity to do well without Fred and George -however
unintentionally- undermining his confidence. Ron can continue with
his prefectly duties without Fred and George cheerfully
disrespecting him at every turn. He and Harry will both be on the
Quidditch team, and what's more, they'll both be tried and
experienced members of the team - it could ease the discomfort
between them and put them on a more equal footing.
And I don't think Dumbledore will make Harry a prefect - to be
honest, he doesn't deserve to be made prefect like that. It smacks
of a spoilt brat; he didn't get the badge when Ron did, he was
jealous, he whined -albiet to himself- and then he gets it. It
wouldn't be for merit, or because he really deserved it. It would
be unwise of Dumbledore - he should stick with his original decision
and not make exceptions for Harry. And now Harry knows it was
nothing personal him not getting it in the first place, he should
accept it, grow up and be happy for Ron. And the circumstances that
caused DD to make that decision in the first place haven't changed;
Harry still has plenty of other things on his mind. Besides, isn't
there only a certain number of students in each year who can be
prefects? And Gryffindor already has its share.
Actually, if there's jealousy afoot, I can see it going from Harry-
to-Ron and not vice versa. But I hope not, because Harry should be
getting more grown up, not regressing to petty childhood. I don't
personally think Ron has Pettigrew potential, his circumstances are
all wrong. And Harry treats him well and with respect; He and Ron
are the core of the group, they're the best friends while Hermione
is the extra. Unlike Pettigrew, who was a hanger-on to the in-crowd
and not treated with any respect or real affection by James and
Sirius.
