I think that a point by point comparison of Ron and Pettigrew won't
work and that the only similarities are that both Pettigrew and Ron
are overshadowed by their more clever or cooler friends and that both
are the weakest component of their respective groups that will betray
them intentionally in Pettigrew's case and possibly unintentionally
on Ron's case is where the similarities end.

However I think the path that will lead to Ron's betrayal will be
very different from the one that lead to Pettigrew's betray. In Ron's
case I think his desire for great things and the fact that Harry will
eventually receive many of the things that he desires will lead to
resentment, jealousy and eventually anger during the next war and
that he in his anger and weakness will probably betray his friends
unintentionally to Voldemort. Though unlike Pettigrew I definitely
see the chance of redemption for Ron.

Despite the fact that we have a window in Harry's thoughts I don't
ever recall Harry being jealous or envious of Ron and his family on
the scale that Ron was jealous of Harry. In fact when is he ever
envious of Ron's family in the books?

Which I think will probably be one of the underlying tragedies of it
all.
