I agree that they are very different characters in their own right
and Ron's betrayal and path to betrayal will be radically different
from that of Pettigrew. Pettigrew's betrayal came from the fact that
he was weak and craved Voldemort's protection while Ron's betrayal
will come from his jealousy and neglect from his friends and will be
a spur of the moment thing.

When has he ever disagreed with harry on a major issue such as
occlumency or the visions.

much his own person with passion and conviction and if anything he is
more of a Sirius or Lupin.
Again I don't think the comparisons in personality works very well
with the trio/sextet and the mauraders. Ron has bits of Pettigrew,
James, Sirius and Lupin in him. It is probably the bits that are
like Lupin and Sirius that will make him see the error of his ways.

I doubt it. The next pettigrew is probably one of the characters from
the first book and is probably a fifth year like Harry. I'm pretty
sure Neville can't be the one since the comparison between him and
pettigrew just smelled of a red herring so it is either Hermione or
Ron. Ron being overshadowed by Harry and Hermione and being the owner
of Scabbers whose previous owner(Percy) betrayed his own family while
Hermione being JKR's avatar practically makes her irreprochable just
leaves me with Ron as the traitor.
Finally there is also the fact that instead of showing the strenghts
of a Ron, Harry and Hermione trio in the DoM JKR instead showed us
the strengths of a Neville, Hermione and Harry trio which i see as
certainly suspicious.
