I find this discussion somewhat disturbing because by taking two general characteristics of two vastly different characters someone has been able to summise that Ron is another Peter Pettigrew and ultimately has disregarded that it is what makes them different that stands them apart.
Granted, both Peter and Ron are second fiddles - (Peter to James) and Ron to, well we all know. However, it really is where the similiarities end. Peter is described as the weaker of the group, the one that everyone else needed to protect and Sirius makes him the secret keeper in the end because it is a given that no one in their right mind would trust Peter with such a responsibility. By all accounts Peter is a weak man haunted by his inadequacies.
Now Ron on the otherhand has a very distinctive and boisterous personality - will disagree with Harry is need be and even though he is characterised as a second fiddle he is very much his own person with passion and conviction and if anything he is more of a Sirius or Lupin.
Perhaps it is, we have not discovered the 'other' Peter yet....

Why would this not prevent him from betraying his friends or the
order?

And how did we know that Wormtail didn't have honor before he became
a stooge and a traitor?

I would advise you to go back and read some of the arguments that he
has with Hermione. They are not attempts at showing affection, but
are just downright nasty with intent to emotionally harm the other
from both parties.

Or he would insult her like what he has done several times.

Yes they do, but they are no where near as close as they are with
Harry and usually when they spend time together it usually degrades
into a shout fest from both sides.

Except the whole thing was hermione's brain child and it was she that
set up the whole thing including jinxing the scroll and creating the
charmed galleons.
