Actually, that is exactly what you are, but that's okay. I admitted
that I can't stand Hagrid and it's true. I hate him. You can admit
that you don't like Ron and that maybe, just maybe it is swaying your
opinion of who he is in the series.
Okay, there is just too much confusing snipped material here for me to
snip again and respond to so I'll just make some general comments.
First, why in the world do you insist that the prefect position should
be taken away from Ron and *now* given to Harry? Can you please
please please show me, using canon and not your own opinions, where in
the book Ron failed so badly at being a prefect? Contemplating buying
firewhiskey isn't enough for me, so sorry.
I was quite pleased when Harry was not selected to be a prefect in
OoP. There is no one and I do mean no one who supports Harry as much
as I do, but I think being a prefect would have been too much for him
to handle. Harry has a full plate as it is and while he might be a
good prefect (as he is good at everything he does, IMO), I don't think
he would have enjoyed it. I think he would have been just as
reluctant as Ron was to pull rank on his peers and his animosity with
Draco would have gone much farther than it did. He also would have
been incredibly distracted, as he was already, dealing with the rise
of Voldemort and no one believing it.
Ron is not perfect, but he did a damned good job of being Harry's
friend in OoP. Harry did not need another Hermione breathing down his
neck every five mintues exclaiming "You can't do that!". I think Ron
showed a lot of respect for Harry when he allowed Harry to make his
own decisions. Ron took the initiative to take a step back from Harry
when it was needed, like when Harry lost his temper - again and again.
That's being a good friend - knowing when to let your friends have
some space to vent.
Ron had some anger issues in GoF and Harry has them now. They are
both teens dealing with mounting pressures both in school and outside
in the WW. The fact that their friendship remains intact is
impressive to me. I believe it will continue, and as much as I like
Neville and see him and Harry developing quite a bond, he will never
be the best friend the way Ron is.
