An animagus can transform into an animal, right? Does *animal*
include *magical creature*? Because I don't think they're the same. I
figure they must have some kind of magical property. Anyway, if a
wizard some how found a way to transform into a phoenix, does that
mean anything? I guess it doesn't mean that they could live forever
(unless they forever remained in the form of a phoenix), but maybe
they can avoid dying the way Fawkes does it in the battle scene of
OotP. He doesn't specifically avoid dying, but takes a shot meant for
Dumbledore and of course, does not die.

Now me (this is my first post, so please be kind):

This is the foundation of my favorite HP theory, as a matter of fact. It is my completely unsubstantiated belief that Godric Griffindor was an animagus and he transformed into a Phoenix. He cannot live any longer as a human, but his soul and his consciousness are alive in Fawkes. I believe we will learn this in the final book, when he sacrifices himself to protect Harry from the last remaining descendant of Salazar Slytherin. Any thoughts? Or is this an idea that has been covered exhaustively in past years and thoroughly rebutted?
