Question: Crookshanks and Mundungus

I don't remember Mundungus being described that way (though I'm sure 
you're probably right, I just don't remember), but the thing with 
Crookshanks is that he's part Kneazle.  You can read about Kneazles 
in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".  Kneazles are "small 
catlike creatures with flecked, speckled, or spotted fur, outsize 
ears, and a tail like a lion's..." (remember Crookshanks' bottle 
brush tail?) and they are "intelligent, independent, and 
occasionally aggressive...have the ability to detect unsavoury or 
suspicious characters...", and they can breed with cats.  I think 
it's pretty much accepted that Crookshanks is a Kneazle, or part 
Kneazle.
