Interesting thought... maybe she wanted to "marry well" in her parents
eyes, and didn't agree with or didn't know Malfoy's Politics. She
wasn't some sort of heathen, "black sheep" if you will (sorry couldn't
resist) but she wanted the status and wealth of marrying into the
Malfoy family and since they were pure blood ("blue blood" anyone?),
that was a good thing in her eyes. After all her name is Narcissa, and
wouldn't that imply that she was concerned with her appearance? Maybe
she figures that her job is to marry well and not concern herself with
the politics of her husband as long as she is taken care of. ("MRS"
degree anyone?)
I like the idea of her influencing Draco some now that his father is
for the time being "out of the picture." After all she is the one that
didn't want him going to Durmstrang. Is there more to that than first
appears? Draco thinks she doesn't want him so far from home, but is it
really to keep him closer to Dumbledore, and away from the Dark Arts
that are taught at Durmstrang? Maybe she is the "good Slytherin" that
we've been searching for (doesn't Draco say at some point his whole
family had been in Slytherin?) We really know very little about her,
and we assume things since Lucius is so evil, and Draco tends to copy
him. However, not that I'm vying for a redemption for him or anything,
I do see the points of people that have been arguing that he really
did try to befriend Harry before he really knew who he was. And just
because he and Harry don't particularly like each other, doesn't
condemn him outright as being evil. (that could go for Snape too) But
those are for reasons other than the big good vs evil picture.
just my thoughts.
