Welcome, Kelly...

All we know about Switching Spells is that they are a classification 
of Transfiguration where one form of species or creature is 
transformed into another.

Apparently, they aren't easy to do and in GoF, Hermoine doesn't have 
a high opinion of their worth. A switching spell was considered as an 
option for his first trial with the dragon, but she thought the spell 
useless "unless you swapped its fangs...for something less 
dangerous..."
