Mhersey, I've been here only a little while myself, and I'd like an 
answer to this, too.  The WW can't possibly be applying memory charms 
to large segments of the population to keep them from "telling" on 
the wizards!

On the other hand, who'd believe them if they told?  I mean, can you 
imagine Hermione's parents going to a dentist's convention and 
telling someone that their daughter goes to a wizarding school?  If 
they weren't hospitalized, they might be reviewed by their 
professional board for their fitness to practice.

I'm looking forward to some more posts on this subject.
