Hey all,
I like the ideas that have come about on this thread.
I have been thinking about this a lot lately as well and i think that
Lily and Petunia are half sisters. This would explain why they look
nothing alike. I think that Petunia knows a lot about the magical
world, but not a whole lot (not enough for me to think that she once
belonged to it). She panics too much and pretends too hard that it
doesn't exist. I think she was jealous that Lily was a witch and
Petunia actually wanted to be a part of it. I think she may have been
ridiculed by wizards and may even have been put in a dangerous
setting, defenseless against magic. Now, she pretends it doesn't
exist because she doesn't like the idea of being that helpless again.
However, she is hiding something, something big. Not just the
howler, not just the unexpected knowledge. She tries too hard to fit
in, she keeps her house too clean, unnaturally, surgically clean.
People that are obsessive about cleaning have something to hide.
I do believe that Lily was a mudblood (excuse the language). My
reason for this is her reaction to Snape in the pensieve, she does
not deny the truth but she does imply that it was offensive, which
would only so, if it were true. (The comment "i don't need you to
make him apologize" ackowledges that there is in fact something to
apologize for) She may unknowingly have had a wizard parent but I
think to the best of her knowledge, she is muggleborn.
Mark EVANS!!! I am really excited about this character. We seem to
have two conflicting pieces of evidence about him. The first, he
is 10 years old, not 12 but 10. So we would assume that given his
last name and age, he would be getting a nice little letter in the
mail soon.
In an interview, JK has said that there is a book that writes down
the name of a magical baby when they are born and when they turn
11, they get a hogwart's letter. Well, it would seem that the
ministry would be aware of a young wizard named Mark Evans. In
Harry's hearing, Fudge says "We have no record of any witch or wizard
living in Little Whinging other than Harry Potter"
So is the kid a wizard or not? Me, I think he is. I am going to
take this one step further and say that any 10 year old that cheeks
Dudley has got have the heart of a lion. So, Mark is going to be in
Gryffindor. I also think he is going to have bright green eyes. I
can't wait until we learn more about this character.
As for the mirror of erised, I think its important. I haven't been
able to go back and re-read that part but recall that he briefly
several other people in the mirror, including a short old man. I
think Harry may see some of these people again.
