Now me:
I think that was Snape reacting to the first hint that Harry wasn't
*quite* like his father after all. Snape finally got a clue that
Harry wasn't what Snape imagined him to be.
After all, when Snape first met Harry, all he really knew about him
was that James (whom he hated) was his father and LV (whom he had
previously served as a DE) had somehow disappeared after cursing
him. For all Snape knew, HP had grown up coddled and pampered as
James' son and as the Boy Who Lived. His first look inside Harry's
head showed him how wrong he was.
