What I'm curious about are the wizarding clothes! True in the m--

seem to wear trousers. However, is there mention in the books about
men wearing trousers? Or about the students wearing standard grey
school uniforms for that matter? When Snape was turned upside
down in the penseive, he - obviously - wasn't wearing trousers under
his robes - school uniform or otherwise.
Curious...

June replied:-

I think that the film is to blame here for the trouser thing. I
suspect the robes are similar in function to monkish or clerical
robes and folk in the ww don't wear trousers underneath them.
IMHO.

Lorien_Eve agreed:

I think you're right June--they don't wear trousers, or other clothes
for that matter, under their robes. Obviously, Snape didn't.
And although it's not in book canon, I really like the school
uniforms they have in TMTMNBN. I like the Quiddith uniforms, too.

I, Dublina ponder further:

Yes, there is serious movie contamination but I have thought about
this often (ex-fashion student) and considered that if you are
supposedly living to around 150 years old then you would be
influenced by what your parents are wearing which would be what they
wore during their 'teens'. When I say 'teens' I'm thinking up until
you are at least 35/40 yrs of age when discussing the Wizarding
World's way rather than a muggles 'teens'.

--Jez, I hope I'm making sense--

We muggles are at the moment are wearing what was 'in', in the 70's
and 80's (ie flares, however 'toned' down they are). Which is why I
think that the witch/wizard folk are wearing clothes from the
Victorian/Edwardian era in TMTMNBN.
Just thinking out aloud...
