Yes, that's also my main problem with this book. (And I haven't got 
that much problems with it, it's my second favorit)

I am not sure here. Of course he seems totally unnecessary, and I 
would agree with you, but I want to wait what happens with him in 
later books. Maybe JKR thought Grawp needs some time for 
his "education" and that's why he's already introduced, while the 
main plot with him will happen in later books. If it doesn't happen, 
I absolutely agree that the whole Grawp storyline was unnecessary.

That's IMO not true. Umbridge is gone, and therefore Hagrid and 
Trelawney have their jobs back. Dumbledore even tells Fudge in the 
Ministry, that his men should stop hunting Hagrid.
