Michael Gidlow:
I think this might have brought up before, but what is the extent of
a Boggart's power. If a boggart takes on the form of something, then
to some extent it must take on its powers. When Harry fights the
boggart dementor, it causes him to relive his worst memories just
like a real dementor. But suppose the boggart dementor tried to kiss
Harry-would it suck his soul out? Or what if it took the form of
Voldemort and tried to kill Harry with the Avada Kedavra curse-would
it kill Harry? Any thoughts?

Me:
I'm confused about boggarts as well. And Lupin using one as a dementor just makes the problem worse... see, not only did the boggart make Harry relive bad memories, but it also wiped out all the lights. This begs the question, why does the full-moon!boggart not cause Lupin to go all hairy? There's got to be some limit on it's powers... but JKR has never explained it well enough (like a lot of things).
