Harry Betrayed... Another Possibility

Reading Melanie and Darrin's defense of our Ron -- that he would
never betray Harry -- made me consider something. In all the
discussions about who will betray Harry (if anyone; let's keep in
mind we're speculating about an hypothesis) I don't believe I've
ever read anyone discuss the possibility of a ghost being the
betrayer.

Now consider our dear friend Sir Nicholas: When Harry goes to him
about SB we learn that the reason some wizards come back as ghosts
is fear of the unknown ("I'll take the castle with the poltergeist
instead of the veil, Monty.") and once made the choice is
irreversible. IIRC he makes some comment (in a bitter tone?) about
how miserable his ghostly life has been.

What if... He Who Must Not Be Named were to approach Sir Nicholas
with either one of two propositions, 1) betray HP and I'll arrange
for you to pass through the veil; or 2) betray HP and I can give you
back your body (neck fully attached)?

We've often said that JKR writes nothing without a reason. Why does
Sir Nicholas keep popping up? Convenient plot device for escaping
Filch? Or is there a more sinister reason for his apparent closeness
to Harry?

M.E.
