It is quite sad I agree I would like to have seen a
more understanding nature come between Snape and
Harry, however there is still book 6 and 7 but...
Snape seems to work on motives purely of his own, such
as in Azkaban. He almost has no interest in reasoning
of a situation wether he knows the situation or not, I
say this because he his an ex Death Eater and should
have known Sirius was innocent there-for he was in a
perfect possition to help Sirius's situation.
If at some stage he did save Harry it would have to do
when James saved Snape from the school boy prank that
Sirius pulled on him, that would be to redeem himself
and he wouldn't feel indebted to Harry or James
himself. He sort of reminds me of Fudge he is not good
or bad, but wants to know whats in it for him. This is
what we have seen so far but there have been some
wonderful opinions about the Snape theory such as one
I read saying he could really be James etc but who
knows time will us I guess.
