Interesting theory. If it were true, could Gryffindor transform back into himself
after so long a time? Would want to be a phoenix for so long? Also, I believe
the Sorting Hat's songs always say that all four founders are dead. The hat
would probably know such a thing, having been around when the founders
were, but I suppose it could be lying about Gryffindor.
I think the Lexicon essay makes a good case for Fawkes's having been
Gryffindor's, especially since Fawkes helped Harry fight Slytherin's beast. My
question is did Tom Riddle's wand shoot red and gold sparks when he bought
it?
