questions before I jump on the bandwagon, though.

I think that's tied in to Lupin's greatest fear being the Prophecy.
It's speculation, but surely Dumbledore could have revealed the
prophecy to James. In that case, perhaps Lupin has learned
more of it than Dumbledore realizes. Voldemort's actions are
consistent with the idea that he believes he alone can kill Harry.
If Lupin believes that too, then stopping Harry from going through
the veil was sheer self-preservation. The last time a piece of
Death Magic failed to destroy Harry Potter, it blasted a whole
house into ruin.

know that Snape was a spy for Dumbledore, else LV would have
known, and LV would have killed Snape when he came back.
So why did he risk his plans in an attempt to kill Snape as well?
If Snape had gotten to the Shrieking Shack sooner, H/R/H would
have been quite relieved to be saved from Lupin & Sirius.
Having Snape conscious would have been a huge risk to the
success of Lupin's plan.<<

Oh, Lupin and Voldemort knew perfectly well that Snape was a
spy. However, they're not going to reveal themselves by
disposing of Snape until they've dealt with Harry. Meanwhile a
blown double agent has his uses. They can use Snape to feed
misinformation to Dumbledore and they know that whatever
Snape tells Voldemort is exactly what Dumbledore wants him to
know, and that's useful too.

Lupin leaves the Map out so that Snape will follow him instead of
going to Dumbledore. He knows about how much time it will
take for Snape to reach the office and find the Map, so he has a
fairly good idea when Snape will be showing up. He figures he,
Sirius and Harry will be more than a match for Snape, and he's
supremely confident that Harry will be on his side. Lupin does
overplay his hand a little; but of course Snape blows it by
threatening to turn Lupin over to the Dementors, thus forcing
Harry to choose sides.
