Actually, I think Dumblydorr used to hunt (or, I think even more likely, he used to study) Demiguises, a graceful, peaceful, herbivorous Ape-like animal. Invisibility Cloaks are made from it's hair, but can only be seen (while invisible) by those skilled in it's capture. It would make sense, then, that someone very skilled in capturing Demiguises would be able to see through Cloaks as well. There's probably additional enchantments to keep the hair's magical properties constantly activated, but that's my theory anyways.
