Now me (Cindy):

I think from what we have been allowed to see in the pensieve, Snape
was quite a bit like Harry when he was 15. Adult-Snape controls his
emotions quite well, and whispers when he is most lethal, instead of
yelling and raging on like Sirius Black does. But teenager-Snape was
cursing and hexing so furiously it all came out of his mouth sounding
like one long word. I've discussed this (among other Snape related
facts and theories) in detail on my Sev. Snape fansite
http://www.designerpotions.com/ss
I think that Snape learnt self-control, most probably, as he learnt
Occlumency.
And the Snape quote you have quoted, to me, symbolises everything that
is Snape the man. He tries to live by these words, these are qualities
that he admires - this is what he believes in, and what is important
to him.
Harry needs to master self-control very quickly, because he is placing
other people in danger.
But they are very much the same. They both hold grudges quite well,
and they are both supremely stubborn, and both will not back down when
they believe that they are right.
