As I recall, your ESE!Lupin scenario involves Lupin being sent by 
Voldemort to kill Sirius.  So in other words, Lupin has been hanging 
out with LV, and he knows what Voldemort knows.  Surely Voldemort 
realizes that Lily's sacrifice only saves Harry from him, not those 
loyal to him, right?  It seems obvious to me as a reader, but maybe 
I'm just not seeing this from lupin's perspective properly.

Hrm... I haven't read the Snape loved Lily posts.  But it sounds like 
that theory can resolve the reason why Voldemort tried to save Lily.  
Hrmm...  that kinda removes the best reason for my lupin & Lily idea.
