No, had some other member of the Order died, it would simply be put 
down to the fortunes of war.  But, since we were repeatedly told 
during OoP that Sirius is reckless and irresponsible, then any time 
he puts a toe over the line, that shows just how reckless and 
irresponsible he is.  Of course, had he stayed at home, I'm sure some 
folks would use that as evidence that he really isn't a good parental 
figure because any parent worth their salt would have gone out to try 
to save their kid, come hell or high water or hordes of Death Eaters.
