JK has mentioned many times that Lupin is one of her favorite 
characters.  I really don't think she is going to make him evil, or a 
traitor and poison Sirius.  Lupin has a "disease" (according to JK) 
and he represents people with a disease that they have to live with.  
Her mother died from MS and I think in a way Lupin is representing 
someone who has a life threatening diease.  I do not think she would 
make Lupin suffer with this and be a traitor or evil. I agree with 
some of the other posts that it was definately Kreacher.  Just a 
thought or two.  Diana
