I am changing the font colour for the next version to something that
should be easier to read - the green prints nicely but not display that
well on screen. I may also be moving most of the next off the map and
using arrows to indicate rooms. Using thinner lines isn't really an
option because of the nature of the mapping program I use - everything
is actual size including the width of walls, and making the walls
thinner would necessitate making doors smaller (or require individual
settings for every door. Yes, I could do less detail - but the thing is,
these images are designed to be used with the CC2 viewer - which allows
you to easily move in to see that detail. The GIFs are simply the
alternative form - not the main one. Larger images could be an option -
but they add considerably to bandwidth and space, and also a surprising
number of people still have quite low screen resolutions - so making
them much large would require them to scroll from side to side to see
them.

I have three primary pieces of floor information for MM's bathroom. Page
numbers are British editions:

'She haunts a girls' toilet on the first floor,' said Hermione. (CoS
101)

'I suppose there's always Moaning Myrtle,' he said gloomily, referring
to the ghost who haunted the girls' toilet on the second floor.' (GoF
345)

'Harry had swallowed a considerable amount of bubbles in shock. He stood
up, sputtering, and saw the ghost of a very glum-looking girl sitting
cross-legged on top of one of the taps. It was Moaning Myrtle, who was
usually to be heard sobbing in the S-bend of a toilet three floors
below.' (GoF 400)

>From Gof 375, we know the Prefects' bathroom is on the fifth floor.

My quotes and notes are all from the British edition to ensure
consistency. So what I have basically is two sources that put the room
on the Second Floor, and one that puts the room on the first floor. It
seems unlikely that this room moves much (it'd make hiding the entrance
to the Chamber of Secrets much more difficult), so I am assuming a fixed
location.

Also, the two references to it being on the second floor are textual -
JKR is telling us where the room is. The one on the first floor is
Hermione telling us.

And the two references to the second floor are from when Harry is in
Fourth year, with considerable experience (back in second year) of going
into that room a number of times. The reference to the first floor was
from Hermione in second year of a room she avoids whenever she can.

Basically I'm assuming that Hermione made a mistake. She was one floor
out about a type of room that appears multiple times around the castle -
by fourth year they know the school better.

So I stick it on the second floor.

These are the types of notes, I've had to make for every room (-8. And
those are just primary notes. I also have secondary notes - for example,
from CoS 171, I know that Moaning Myrtle's bathroom is a floor above the
hospital wing, which I know is a floor above the ground floor (don't
have all my notes on the hospital wing with me now - it's one I'm having
to look at in more detail as I have new information from OotP that seems
to indicate there's an entrance on a different floor - not a problem,
the hospital wing *is* a wing, and so could take multiple floors - it's
just that on the current maps, I had it on one floor).

Maybe - but that is the bandwidth problem again. I originally put the
current maps on Geocities - nobody could access them most of the time
because they kept going over bandwidth limits. But it looks like there
may be a solution to that problem - more on that later.
