"Severus Snape," as I'm sure most of you know, is an anagram for
Perseus Evans. This is basis for a lot of speculation, but I would
just like to note Perseus the mythological hero loved a woman he
rescued, named Andromeda. We are told Tonk's mother is named
Andromeda early in the fifth book, by Sirius. So that's probably your
best bet, and I wouldn't bet on this theory unless someone was
threatening me with a slug-belching jinx.
