When I look at Dumbledore, I see someone who knows more than he lets
on. I believe that he knows more about what is going on and what is
going to happen and he also knows that he cannot "interfere" with
events as they are supposed to happen. ie., He knows the outcome
before it happens. In COS, he goes off to the MOM knowing that
Harry, Ron, and Hermione will attempt to retreive the SStone. He
knew that only Harry could retreive the Stone from the Mirror. He
also knew that Harry could destroy Professor Q. He returned in time
to retreive Harry and take him to the hospital. In COS he looks
right at Harry and Ron through the cloak of invisibility. He told
them that they would receive help if they only would ask. He didn't
interfere with what they were planning but let it happen. He seems
to ask the question, "Is there anything else you want to tell me?"
more than a few times of Harry (and Tom Riddle). In OOTP he shows
up just in time to "save" Harry and capture the DE. His ability to
know things can be a function of age and wisdom or it could be a
function of having the ultimate knowledge of the Wizarding World and
the wisdom of when to use it and how to use it, without abusing that
knowledge to his detrement as LV has used the Dark Arts. Which
brings me to the question, "Does Dumbledore need to die?" I believe
that he does not need to die in battle, ( however like ObiWan died
only to become more powerful than Darth could imagine, Harry will
not be alone in his battle against LV if DD does die).
I hope JKR doesn't pull any of that "dream ending" BS. I would like
to see Harry end up as the Headmaster at Hogwarts.
