Ah now there's the kicker. What if its not special powers but just
how

We know that Dumbledore and Snape are both legilimens, with
Dumbledore being the more powerful. Dumbledore would be able to
sense them there, getting emotions from them. There's a proof you
can do through facts in canon, in that we know Voldemort is a
legilimens (Harry's learning Occlumency to fight him off), Voldemort
can tell when people are lying (Sorcerer's Stone), Dumbledore is a
legilimens (he says he is), Dumbledore always knows if Harry's
around, even if he's under the invisibility cloak, and Snape is a
legilimens and constantly suspects Harry et al of being up to no
good (when they aren't). I think this is pretty good evidence, but
I suppose it could still be something else.

Also, I submit to you that this is why Snape always seems to know
when Harry has done something wrong...for instance when he threatens
to give Harry veritaserum for stealing potion ingredients (maybe he
just sensed guilt...we all know Harry didn't steal the gillyweed or
the stuff for the Polyjuice Potion, but since he had caused the
diversion for Hermione and Dobby stole the gillyweed for Harry he
felt guilty). If you accept this to be true, then it makes Snape
even more despicable. He might know when Harry's innocent and rely
on the dubious circumstances to make it seem like there's no reason
to believe Harry. Is this making any sense? I'm sick today, and
therefore not thinking entirely clearly.
