Me: I'm not sure how JKR's use of the phrase "in love with" suddenly
leaped to "gets involved with." She didn't say that the trio are all
*dating* the wrong people, so I don't see why Ron and Fleur had to
have an actual relationship for it to apply to them. She also didn't
say that the "wrong people" loved them back. And while it may seem
clear to many of us that Ron was in love with Hermione by GoF, *he*
certainly didn't acknowledge it, to himself or anyone else. The only
girl he acted his feelings for was Fleur. His asking her to the ball
could certainly fit in with JKR's quote from the Columbus Dispatch
interview that someone else mentioned: "They're all kind of after
the wrong people, as in life." Ron may be in love with Hermione, but
he wasn't going after her in GoF. He was just acting jealous and put
out.

>>>Also if we are using the Harry/Cho and Hermione/Viktor as
standards then Ron's crush has to last more than one book and the
Ron/Fleur thing hardly lasted half a book while his love for Hermione
which starts in GoF is still there.<<<

Me: I'm not using them as "standards," I was merely agreeing with
your original point that JKR was referring to those particular
pairings when she made the "in love with the wrong people" comment.
