You know, I was wondering about that myself.  My main reason for 
wondering is because we know that Ron used Bill's (?) old wand until 
it broke in CoS, and Neville was using his father's old wand until 
the end of OoTP when it breaks.  I think there are reasons why some 
people use handed down wands, but I don't think even if someone had 
given Harry his mum and dad's wands, they would have worked, because 
as we know in the GoF, his wand and Voldemort's wands share cores, 
which is ultimately going to play a far bigger role than it already 
has, at least thats my thought on it.
