I think Hermione thinks the other girls are just being plain silly
and juvenile. Also, after her experience with Trelawney, she
probably doesn't think anyone who has anything to do with teaching
Divination is much good. However, it does strike me that her answer
is a bit odd for her. Maybe she IS interested in centaurs and is
throwing anyone who might be listening off the track. The centaurs
don't need anyone's help but they sure could be a help down the road
if they wanted to. (and why tip Umbridge off?)
