I just think that if Draco Malfoy had made that remark about 
centaurs, we wouldn't be quite so relaxed about it.  And let's be 
honest, Hermione would never dare to say that to a centaur to his 
face, not just because Firenze is a teacher, either.  Just imagine 
her addressing Bane that way.  I wouldn't have expected her to make 
a nasty remark like that about a non-human, so I'm just wondering if 
Rowling has some point behind the incident, or did she just get 
careless and write the remark without thinking how it fitted with 
the character.
