Vastly entertained by the Burgeoning Thread That Is Percy.

When I postulated that 'Weasley' is too close to 'weasely', there were also one or two
other bits of knowledge that influenced me.

Percy is reputed to come from Pierce-eye. Robert of Mowbray brought the keys of
Castle Alnwick to Malcolm III of Scotland on a lance and thrust the lance into the
king's eye. This has been the name of the Dukes of Northumberland ever since.
Probably fable according to Sir Walter Scott. ( Brewers Dictionary of Phrase and Fable )
Sounds like a nasty piece of work to me.

Without wishing to be too indelicate, Percy is UK slang for a certain portion of the
male anatomy. What does that make him? Riiiiight.

Since then there has been much made of the children of wizarding families; Vix
pointed out that the Weasleys appear to be the only family in the books to have
children of both sexes. Now, if Percy were to be responsible for the death of the only
daughter in the family, it could add extra Bang. Angst, remorse, revenge...Happy
Families!
