I agree. A possibility: Snape was going over the
ingredients of whatever potion they were learning that
day, and someone (intellegent or ahead) asked about a
certain combination or ingredient. He may have said
something along the lines of "... similar to the
Polyjuice Potion used so often during You-Know-Who's
reign to impersonate people at the ministry. But of
course, none of you will be able to make it, as it is
in Moste Potente Potions..." (<-me not the JKR).

In two off hand line, I have give reason why someone
child would know it (if a parent had been victim),
reason to not use it, insult to intellegence, and
where it is. Hermione would be the type of person to
find out where the book is even if she couldn't have
gotten it, just for extra reading.
