it because his father left his mother?  I have always found it strange that 
he would set out on a mission to kill muggles fully knowing he is 
half-blooded.  Do you think all of the death eaters know his is not a full 
blooded wizard?  Is there any canon that has stated this?"


LV hates muggles so much BECAUSE he is part muggle. He views it as a 
weakness. Plus, his muggle father left his witch mother. It's not exactly 
the best parenting or the best example of muggle kindness. His mother died 
to bring him into the world, whereas his father left him to fend for himself 
in some dingy Muggle Orphanage.

Voldemort wants to separate himself from being Tom Riddle. Tom Riddle is the 
half-blood, Voldemort is this entity.

I'm not sure if all the Death Eaters know. We know for certain that Wormtail 
knows because he helped with the restoration ritual to bring him back to 
full power.

It's also interesting to note that Harry himself is almost the exact 
opposite of Voldie himself, despite their very similiar upbringings. Harry 
was orphaned as a baby, so was Voldie. Harry is a half-blood, so is Voldie. 
Voldie grew up in a Muggle Orphange, Harry grew up with the Dursleys which 
is almost as bad as living in an Orphanage. Voldie went to Slytherin and 
Harry went to Gryffindor (after asking to). Harry and Tom Riddle may be 
similiar in abilities, but like Dumbledore said...it's our choices that make 
us who we truly are. Harry COULD have ended up like Voldemort- an evil, 
Muggle-hating yet powerful wizard, but even though he had this terrible time 
growing up, he still chose to be good. (at least so far...;o) )

Very, very true. Tom's resentment toward his own Muggle father was already 
growing strong within him. When he discovered Salazar's belief system 
(Muggle hating, pure-bloods only), his resentment grew from specifically 
hating his father to hating the entire Muggle world. Plus, when he learned 
he was Slytherin's decesdent, he realized he had to carry on his "noble 
work". Thus, the infatuation (for lack of a better word) begins to evolve 
into full blown hatred.

It's the same thing Hitler did with the Jews. Hitler blamed all of his 
misfortunes on the Jews because in his eyes they controlled all the money 
(which in a way they did...they were big bankers and businessman). Where 
Germany was floundering, especially after the terrible defeat in WWI, he saw 
the Jews prosper. Hitler was in a prison for a short while and during his 
imprisonment he wrote "Mein Kampf" or "My Struggle" in which he details his 
philosophy, why he hates the Jews, and the Final Solution.

Actually, it's a myth. I also thought that was true, but I did some research 
and apparently Hitler never had a Jewish grandmother. There are essays and 
theories proving that he wasn't really Jewish at all...but there have been 
theories about him having a Jewish grandfather. Nevertheless, Hitler tried 
to keep his ancestry very vague.

It's possible Voldemort is doing the same. He wants to put as much space 
between him and his past self- Tom Riddle. I don't know how many exactly 
know and it would be interesting to see how they would react.

Lucius Malfoy does hate all Muggles...but it's probably because Voldemort 
presses that ideal so much. This purebloods only philosophy is easily a 
comparison to Hitler's final solution and the development of a super race- 
the Aryan race (in which Hitler AND old Voldie do not meet the standards to 
actually be a part of)- and the various forms of genocide that have swept 
Europe and Africa throughout history.
