I haven't given this but marginal thought, but...

With Cedric out of the way, Harry and Cho will become closer, 
her character will be better developed, and then she will be 
killed.  Cho may well be the "special fan" and what her death 
means to Harry could make it difficult to write for JKR.  Then 
Harry would likely not end up with anyone until septology's end, 
when Ginny or, for all I know, even Lavender Brown, may be 
more developed as a character.

Or not.
